Mining is a sector that is notorious for its large, negative impact on people and the environment. Although we see a shift from linear to circular use of materials and minerals, many raw materials are still needed for the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Steps are being taken in the Philippines: the round table on responsible mining in the Philippines turned out to be very open and constructive. For the first time we got the financial sector at the table. Although the sector faces many different challenges in many areas, we found agreement in the effort to raise responsible mining to a higher level for national-, but especially for the huge number of more than 500,000 small-scale miners.
